FRIENDS have come to the aid of a well known Berwickshire piper.

Peter Craig, a former pipe major with the Eyemouth British Legion Pipe Band, is currently recovering from surgery in the Knoll Hospital, Duns.

The surgery has left him temporarily unable to blow his pipes.

Hearing of his dilemma, a number of local organisations got together and purchased a set of electrionic bagpipes which can be played without having to be blown.

These new pipes will allow Peter to continue practising his lifelong hobby while in hospital. And there is no chance of Peter disturbing the other patients for the pipes can be muted using special earphones.

Peter, now in his mid 70s, has been piping since his schooldays and he will be sadly missed throughout Berwickshire during the Burns season.

The new pipes will alow Peter to retain his skills until he is well enough to get back to the real thing
