£500 worth of tools stolen from Tweedmouth yard

Police are appealing for information after £500 worth of tools were stolen from a construction compound at a Tweedmouth retail park.

Construction work is ongoing at the retail park at the rear of Marks and Spencers. Somebody climbed the fence of a secure compound there over night some time between Tuesday, January 31 and Wednesday, February 1 and attempted to force entry to a steel container using a scaffolding bar.

When they failed to gain entry they stole various tools from the compound to a value of over £500, including trowels, shovels, brick hammer, donkin iron, chisels and screwdrivers.

Police are appealing for witnesses or information in relation to this incident and the recovery of the property.

Sometime during the same evening there was a break-in to a container at the rear of Marks and Spencer where the lock was removed from the container. The culprits entered the container and left with nothing, but caused damage.

Police say the two incidents are connected. Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Amer at Berwick police station.
