At their recent very successful Harvest Supper in Preston Village Hall, which raised about £1,000 for church funds, the minister and elders of Bonkyl Kirk launched their new initiative ‘The Friends of Bonkyl Kirk’.

In January, 2015, Bonkyl and Duns and Edrom Churches will all come together to form a new congregation called Duns and District Parishes, allowing for a better sharing of resources and improved administration, while still maintaining the present pattern of worship between the three churches.

The local community of Bonkyl and Preston are keen to keep Bonkyl Kirk at the centre of their community and the elders are aware of the dangers of being overwhelmed by the much larger congregation of Duns Parish Church. The Friends of Bonkyl Kirk will seek to protect some of the identity and independence of the country church.

The aim of The Friends of Bonkyl Kirk is to maintain a degree of autonomy which will allow the leadership of our local church to care for, and to promote, the lovely historic Church without always having to refer to the larger grouping each and every time.

Members will receive an annual update on the life and worship of Bonkyl Kirk, information of all our special services and events, and an invitation to our annual Friends of Bonkyl Kirk Sunday Service.
