National Insurance changes for employers

Borders employers can now reduce the amount of National Insurance contributions they pay for their employees by up to £2000.

Local MP Michael Moore welcomed the UK Treasury’s new ‘Employment Allowance’, which was announced last year and came into effect at the start of the new tax year.

Mr Moore said: “This new tax cut is part of the Coalition Government’s long term economic plan to back businesses investing in jobs.

“Up to 1.25 million businesses and charities across the UK will benefit from the Employment Allowance. Around 450,000 businesses and charities won’t have to pay any employer National Insurance contributions at all.

“Employers in the Borders should check to see whether they are eligible for this new allowance - “
