Marathon effort by charity golfers

Golf challenge

An intrepid team of four golfers have raised the tremendous sum of over £2,000 for charity by completing a marathon golf challenge.

The challenge was the brainchild of former Duns man Mark Baxter who, along with his brother-in-law Stuart Munn, Stephen Clark from Duns and Robert McCraw, also formerly of Duns, completed 72-holes over four different courses between Tayport and St Andrews in a day to raise money for Macmillan Cancer.

It was an early start for the team, teeing off at St Michaels at 4.30am. After competing 18 holes there they moved to Strathyrum and then Drumoig before completing their challenge at Scotscraig, Mark and Stuart’s home course, walking off the last green at 10.20pm.

They had to put up with some terrible weather conditions during the day and one of the club’s kindly tumble-dried their clothes for them as they sat in the clubhouse with only towels around them! However, they completed the challenge and the total raised so far is £2,069. Thanks go to all those who so generously sponsored them.
