Macmillan quiz a great success

SIR, - Yet again Jane Anderson and friends set an excellent quiz for Macmillan Cancer Support in Duns British Legion.

The round on the Royal Family appears to have been the hardest - take note to polish up for the next time. Susan Swan, quiz master for the evening, was her usual entertaining self. Winners were Simple Minds, with ATTA second and C and F +2 and Red Hot Trivia Peppers third equal.

Round sponsors were Greenvale, Ahlstrom, J Aitchison and Son, Europa Shipping, Oliver Transport, Aitken-Walker and Farne Salmon and Trout. The Top n’ Tail was won by S Scobie - prize of Dalmore Single Malt donated by Jim Cook. Donald Stokes handed over a cheque for all the money dropped on the pavements in Duns. An amazing amount of over £500 was raised on the night which will be sent to the Macmillan Cancer Support Centre at the Borders General Hospital to be utilised in various fuctions of the centre.

Our next event is the plant sale on Sunday, May 13, in Duns Volunteer Hall. If anyone feels in the position to plant more seeds or if they are potting up plants or shrubs and feel they have to many perhaps you would like to donate them to the Sale. Anyone wishing to donate plants at any time can call 0136188 2894 to arrange to have the plants collected.

If anyone would like to join Macmillan Cancer Support please feel free to contact any member of the committee, Caroline Prentice on 07817473339 or myself on 01361 882894. We hold four meetings and four functions per year and would welcome any new members.

JOYCE BLAIKIE,

Chairperson.
