Scotland’s First Minister has tweeted her congratulations to the Hawick couple revealed as Britain’s biggest Lotto winners.

Nicola Sturgeon tweeted: “Many congratulations to Carol & David from Hawick! Wishing them every happiness in their good fortune.” The First Minister’s message of congratulations came not long after the couple were presented with their record-breaking cheque in Edinburgh this morning.

And Hawick’s Honorary Provost Stuart Marshall says the Lotto win is a great story and he added: “You could not meet a nicer guy than David Martin. He used to come to Pringle’s Glebe Mill many years ago to repair frames and was a first class mechanic and I really do think the whole of Hawick will wish both him and Carol all the best for the future. Good luck to them in whatever they decide to do.”
