Police in the Borders are appealing for witnesses following a metal theft in Berwickshire.

The incident happened sometime during Christmas week at Rumbletonrig Farm in Greenlaw.

Following bad weather in the area, power cables, which supply electricity to equipment on the farm, were felled and were awaiting repair.

However, before the pylon could be restored, a large quantity of the cables was stolen.

The total value for the stolen metal is around £8,000 and police are urging anyone who can assist with their enquiries to come forward.

Chief Inspector Kenny Simpson said: “The theft of these cables will result in greater delay to full power being restored to the farm. We are keen to hear from anyone who remembers seeing anything suspicious around the farm in the past week or so.”

Those with information are asked to ring 101.
