Sixteen staff at Coastal Marine Boatbuilders have been made redundant following the Eyemouth-based firm’s fall into administration.
The redundancies , which will see the current workforce halved, have been deemed necessary by PCR Recovery, the administrators called in to deal with financial problems which came to light a few weeks ago.
In a statement issued earlier this week, a representative for PCR commented: “Since our appointment we have conducted a review of the business and it was apparent that with the current level of activity the business was seriously over-staffed.
“We recognise that redundancies are extremely distressing for all of those affected but they were unfortunately necessary in order to protect the business.”
