Coldingham Priory was a hive of activity on Saturday afternoon as families indulged in Christmas craft activities.
Some were making their own designer wrapping paper; others making cards and decorations and nativity puppets; and some were making ‘donkey dung’ - apparently made from chocolate icing!
It was all part of the Messy Christmas session of the Priory’s new venture, Messy Church; a different way of doing church that is more relaxed, fun, and exciting, run on alternate months in Coldingham and Eyemouth.
After the craft and games, celebration time followed, led by Rev Andy Haddow. A chance to sing Christmas songs and reflect on the Christmas story together, not the pristine stable and fluffy white sheep shown on our Christmas cards, but the fact of Jesus being born into the real world, our “messy” world.
The highlight was the nativity story, acted out using the puppets that had been made, with narrations read by the older children. Tea and a birthday cake ended Messy Christmas.
