Young people in the Borders who haven’t yet registered to vote in the Scottish independence referendum are being urged to do so.
Scottish Borders Council’s electoral registration officer Mark Dickson said: “The referendum on 18 September will be the first opportunity many young people will have to cast their vote. I’m keen to make sure all eligible young voters are registered.
“At the start of June I will be writing to the 15, 16 and 17 year olds who successfully registered during the annual canvass of electors carried out in October and November last year. I would urge anyone in this age bracket who doesn’t receive a letter to contact me as soon as possible to make sure they are registered and can vote on 18 September.”
To vote in the referendum you have to be aged 16 or over on 18 September 2014 and living in Scotland. You must be a British, qualifying Commonwealth or European Union citizen. You must also be registered to vote by 2 September 2014.
