Duns Guides have just returned from their annual summer camp.
This year 18 guides and three leaders spent a long weekend at Ford Scout Campsite. The theme was very topical – football.
Activities included finding out about Brazil to locate this year’s World Cup event, choosing team names and making team mascots, composing cheerleading raps, practising warm-up routines and learning about the history of football.
However, the best fun of all was the Duns Guides’ World Cup held on Saturday afternoon in glorious sunshine.
Four teams battled it out with each other with Team Betsie emerging as winners. The competition was fierce with quite a number of goals scored but several penalties required due to hand-balls! Fortunately the Guiding ethos of fair play prevailed and nobody was sent off.
The fitness theme continued when an obstacle course competition was held later in the evening. A big thank you must go to Cashback for Communities which funded all the play equipment. Football pitch cakes were also decorated then consumed for supper!
Throughout the weekend the Guides also took part in more conventional camp crafts with many of the girls passing the Camper and Advanced Camper badges. A photo trail of Ford village was also followed.
An evening of torrential rain accompanied by thunder and lightning did not dampen the Guides’ spirits. Well done to all the girls for a super weekend of fun and friendship.
