St Abbs and Eyemouth lifeboats in action

On its way to Berwick upon Tweed RNLI Open Day last Sunday Eyemouth RNLI made a detour to St Abbs Head to assist a fishing boat that had capsized.

The small pleasure boat, with three people on board had capsized in the Petticowick area, close to St Abbs head and by the time the Eyemouth lifeboat arrived the men had been recovered from the sea and rocks by St Abbs inshore lifeboat crew.

As the fishermen had been in the water for over 20 minutes, all three were transferred to Eyemouth lifeboat from the St Abbs lifeboat and taken back to Eyemouth, where they were met by paramedics to be checked over for signs of hypothermia. A helicopter ambulance had also been sent to Eyemouth.

Once given the all clear by paramedics the men were taken back to St Abbs to try and salvage their belongings from the capsized boat and Eyemouth lifeboat then headed to the Berwick.
