Over the last year 400 people in the Borders have found work, reducing the level of unemployment in the region.
Local MP Michael Moore welcomed the news and said: “These figures show that the Borders economy is recovering and for every person who is back in work, this is great news for their family, our local community and the wider economy.
“I am pleased that the Liberal Democrats in Government are helping local businesses grow and giving them the confidence to employ more people.
“However, I recognise that for many people things remain tough, so I am determined to continue to help people across the constituency return to work and receive the support they need to get the skills required in the workplace.”
Over 40 job opportunities were created when Scottish Borders Council launched its Youth Employment Scotland (YES) scheme, encouraging local businesses to create new jobs for unemployed young people.
