Primary 5 and 6 at Swinton Primary were delighted this week when they each received their own personal letter from His Royal Highness Prince Harry.
As part of an interdisciplinary topic about Antarctica the P5/6 pupils had been following the prince as he trekked across Antarctica while taking part in the race Walking with the Wounded. During a literacy lesson the pupils themselves had suggested they could further develop their letter writing skills by writing to Prince Harry to ask about his Antarctic adventure and did so, never expecting to get replies.
Miss Robertson P5/6 teacher said: “What a surprise when Prince Harry’s press secretary phoned the school to speak to Mrs Waite headteacher to check the names of all the pupils in P5/6, then a few days later a large jiffy bag arrived and inside were letters in addressed envelopes with the Royal seal on the back for each pupil.”
Max Prentice, P5 said: “It’s the kind of thing that doesn’t happen to a small class in a small school like ours.”
Finn Clay-Parker, P6 added: “It’s an honour for the whole class to get a personal letter and photograph from Harry.”
