Officers from the Road Policing Unit are keen to remind motorists of their responsibilities after five people were detected for drink driving offences in the Lothians and Scottish Borders area last weekend.
Among them was a 39-year-old man, who was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after the Ford Mondeo he was driving struck a bridge parapet near Westruther
The Unit’s Sergeant Neil Inglis said: “There were three collisions in the Lothians and Scottish Borders division in the space of 36 hours hat were all the result of people driving while under the influence of alcohol.
“Police Scotland’s priority is keeping people safe, especially on our roads, and anyone prepared to take the chance of driving after consuming drink or drugs will be vigorously pursued.”
Anyone who suspects anyone of drinking and driving should contact Police Scotland on 101 (999 in the case of emergencies) or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
