A new Co-op store is planned for Duns, creating 20 new jobs and replacing the existing store in Newtown Street, which opened in 2006 at a cost of £2 million.
Representatives from the Co-operative met with Duns Community Council this week to explain their plans.
A planning application is likely to be submitted in the next four to six weeks and a spokesperson for The Co-operative Estates said: “We are looking to open a new store on Langtongate, but we are still at the very early stages of planning.
“On the assumption that planning permission is granted, we would anticipate opening the new store at the end of next year: all staff will be invited to relocate to the new premises and around 20 new jobs will be created.
“Should the new store be built, it will be on a site near to the new secondary school. It will replace the existing store. A new store would allow us to provide an even better service for our customers, while enhancing our role at the heart of the community.”
