New ASDA store seeks local suppliers

THE new ASDA store in Dunbar, which is due to open its doors later this month, is appealing for businesses in the area to come forward with local products they think shoppers would like to see sold in store.

It's all part of the supermarket's continued commitment to supporting the community by stocking products produced by local suppliers.

Stevie Kain, manager at the new ASDA store in Dunbar, believes that the inclusion of quality local and regional producers will compliment the lines that the store plans to sell.

He said: "We know from talking to our future customers, and from positive past experience, that there is big demand for local sourcing. We would be delighted to include some of the very best food products which are found right here on our doorstep."

Interested businesses should contact Stevie Kain with their product details. Stevie, together with ASDA's local sourcing team will then decide which of the local specialties are most likely to be snapped up by shoppers.

Potential local suppliers need fulfil only four criteria to be considered and there is no limit on company size:

*There is evidence of consumer demand locally.

*The product must have a barcode (something ASDA will help with).

*Minimum technical and food safety standards must be met.

*Suppliers must have a fax machine to receive orders.

Stevie added: "Stocking products supplied by local people for local people is part of our commitment to supporting our community. Dunbar and East Lothian as a whole has a wide variety of high quality, fresh local produce, and it's clear that local suppliers know how to make the most of the goods that abound on their doorstep.

"If you've got a local product that people just can't get enough of then we'd love to hear from you."
