South Scotland Liberal Democrat MSP Jim Hume has accused the Justice Secretary of passing the buck on the future of Selkirk and Jedburgh sheriff courts.
In a separate move, Mr Hume has called for a meeting with the group set up to consider the future of the courts.
The group, uncovered by the MSP after a FOI request, is due to present its recommendations between now and the end of February, although no specific date has been given.
Mr Hume said Kenny MacAskill cannot hide “behind a veil of secrecy’ when it came to the courts .
Michael Moore MP added: “Following the closure of Duns and Peebles courts, people are rightly concerned about the future of the remaining ones in the Borders. Access to local justice is hugely important.”
