Coldstream butcher Graham Sanderson gets ready to celebrate the 'Year of the Haggis'

A Coldstream butcher has struck gold with his special products for barbecuing this summer.

G.J. Sanderson were successful in the recent Craft Butcher Awards evaluation for speciality burgers and speciality barbecue products which were judged recently at the City of Glasgow College.

The success came with a gold award for their ‘Sweet and Sour Pork Burger’ and silver award for ‘Caramelised Onion and Mozzarella Cheese Steak Burger’. Both are ideal products for cooking and eating out of doors so let’s hope for a great summer.

Come rain or shine however, the local butchers products thankfully taste just as fine when grilled or fried.

Graham Sanderson was delighted to be presented with his awards at the recent regional meeting in the Carfraemill Hotel held by the event organisers, Scottish Craft Butchers.

Graham said: “We try hard to come up with fresh ideas to excite our customers’ taste buds.

“This recognition proves that we have refined our recipe to popular tastes and we look forward to attracting new customers who are looking for something which is just a little different.”

Another Borders award winner was Jedburgh butcher Allan Learmonth who also won Silver Awards for his ‘BBQ Spirals’ and ‘Spicy Meatball Kebabs’.

Ian Faulds, president of the Scottish Craft Butchers added: “We run these evaluations not just to reward excellence but to underline the diverse product range that craft butchers offer.

“It is a good time to be a butcher because customers are becoming more adventurous with their tastes and they are always seeking out the assurance of provenance that shopping at a specialist provides.”

This is not the first time that butchers in the Borders have been commended for their products. They figure regularly in various competitions including the prestigious World Pie Championships.
