Funding for Armed Forces Day events

The Armed Forces Day grant scheme from the Ministry of Defence is now open for applications, with a deadline of March 28.

Match funding grants of 50 per cent (with a maximum of £10,000) are available to help local councils, organisations, schools, ex-service organisations and individuals in the UK to host an Armed Forces Day event.

Since 2009, National Armed Forces Day has been marked annually throughout the UK to show support for servicemen and women, past and present.

Among the events taking place across the country has been the Parade of Colours in Coldstream which has been held since 2009, and this year’s event on June 21, will commemorate 100th anniversary of the start of World War One, the 40th anniversary of the Freedom of the Burgh of the Kings Own Scottish Borderers (now 1st Bn Royal Regiment of Scotland - Royal Scots Borderers), and the 70th anniversary of D-Day.

This year the national celebrations are on Saturday, June 28, and only events held a week either side of that date will be eligible for a grant.
