Farne Salmon in Duns is celebrating after scooping a trio of national product awards in The Grocer magazine’s Food and Drink Own Label Awards.
These awards are regarded by the food industry as the sector’s Oscars.
The company received a Gold and Silver Award in the ‘Ready to Eat Fish’ category for its ‘Finest Kiln Roasted Salmon with Roquito Peppers and Basil’ and ‘Smoked Salmon Slices with Sweet Chilli’, both produced for key customer, Tesco.
Farne also bagged a further Silver Award in the ‘Chilled Pates and Spreads’ category for its ‘Smoked Salmon and Mustard Dill Verrines’, also made for Tesco.
Attracting a record number of entries this year, The Grocer Food and Drink Own Label Awards determined the winners based upon both the judges’ comments and consumer feedback.
Linda Dickson, head of human resources at Farne, said: “Farne has come a long way in recent years and we are really delighted with these award wins which demonstrate our team’s ability to develop innovative, great tasting products that rank amongst the best available in the UK.
All products entered in these prestigious awards are tasted by consumers and it is their feedback that helps to decide the final winners.”
Consumers comments received regarding the Farne products praised the Kiln Roasted Salmon for its quality packaging and the way in which the moist and flaky salmon was enhanced by the peppers and basil topping.
The judges were also impressed by the originality of the product and its attractive presentation.
