It has been some years since Eyemouth hosted a food festival but things are about to change.
Our lives have been changed by Facebook, smartphones etc, but there is always the desire for great food and a good day out on a summer weekend. Also unchanged is Eyemouth food businesses who make the finest products from locally-sourced ingredients. Enjoying these foods, on a sunny day (we hope) in June, to some good music is a simple recipe for enjoyment.
Eyemouth is launching the Kirk Square Kitchen, a one-day food and music festival, showcasing the best of local food and entertainment to be held on Saturday, June 7, from 11am to 6pm.
Start your day with a selection of first courses, whet your appetite for a food journey; revealing the diversity of Eyemouth’s food culture, the Indian Brasserie team will be making delicately-spiced, Indian snack pakora, vegetarian, chicken or Eyemouth-landed fish, with special dips to complement the crispy fritters.
Other options of a first course are from Oblò, serving warming chowder and other bistro treats, or choose a plate of local cured meats from Hammond Charcuterie, or Waddell’s who will load their stall with dishes of local fish, smoked fish and seafood, it’s up to you to choose where to start.
Take a seat in the marquee and enjoy the music. Story-tellers and face-painters will be on hand to amuse the younger visitors, and when you cannot resist the cooking scents, visit Foreman’s hog roast, with local pork, or Hammond’s burgers, either local Aberdeen Angus or wild venison, in local rolls. Waddell’s is sure to fulfil the fish-lover.
Choose wine from Oblo, supplying soft drinks and kid’s drinks too, or drop into the nearby Fleet to get a pint.
Chill out to the Reston Band’s stylish soul covers, familiar film themes and then “Three Doors Down’, will roll out vintage rocking grooves; Raymond Williams sings smooth show classics and Andrew Valentine fits the relaxed bill with a folky flavour. More acts to follow.
Questo will delight sweet tooths with tray-bakes, and great coffee too. If cupcakes are the thing, head for Eyemouth Museum stall, serving lashings of tea too. Fresh dairy ice-cream, by Giacopazzi’s, the perfect accompaniment to cakes, or just on its own.
