Dunbar’s volunteer lifeboat crew staged a dramatic rescue of an injured bargeman just yards from their own front door.

In one of their closest rescues ever the crew of the town’s RNLI inshore lifeboat went to the aid of the man who had been working on dredging the habour when he sustained a back injury and became stuck in a container on the barge.

Coxswain Gary Fairbairn said: “We managed to get the injured man off the barge and back to the beach in the harbour where he was taken aboard the ambulance and conveyed to the Royal Infirmary for treatment.”
