Senior members of five cross-border councils will meet for the first ever Borderlands Initiative summit this week.
The conference will see leaders from Scottish Borders, Dumfries and Galloway, Carlisle City, Cumbria and Northumberland councils discuss how to take forward key economic opportunities.
The launch of the initiative was announced by the Scottish Government at its Cabinet meeting in Hawick in August 2013, a month after the publication of the Borderlands report by Northumbria University.
The report recommended enhanced joint working of local authorities on either side of the border to exploit mutual economic and social links.
The Association of North East Councils and Northumbria University will also be represented at the summit.
