Coldingham caravan park’s wind turbine

A 45m high wind turbine is planned for Highview Caravan Park, five miles west of Coldingham.

Ecocel Renewables had initially planned to apply for planning consent for a single 63.5m high turbine but after discussions with Scottish Borders Council planning officers they reduced the height of the turbine to 45m.

In their application, agents Stuart Burke Associates state: “The turbine is located northwest of Highview Caravan Park, bounded by a number of fields primarily used for grazing and agricultural activities. The field boundaries typically comprise trees or hedgerows consistent with a rural setting. There are no major watercourses nearby.

“The most prominent vertical landscape feature is Drone Hill Windfarm immediately to the north of the site. The site forms part of the former Drone Hill Chain Radar station that closed in 1957.

“The turbine has been positioned with respect to the local environment, site specific constraints and required offset distances following a detailed review of planning policy guidance.”

The development comprises the turbine, access track, sub-station, installation of underground electricity cables and temporary construction arrangements.
