The outstanding exhibits in the Dahlia classes were the highlight of this year’s Chirnside Flower Show held on Saturday.

The committee were pleased with the number of entries for the show and reported that all sections were well supported. The Dahlia classes in particular were of a very high standard and in the industrial section the class for a Date Loaf attracted 12 entries!

The school must also be congratulated for the pupils’ hard work in producing such creative articles and pictures for the show.

Judges of the various sections were A. Bell, I. Liddle, B. Paton, W. Craig, J. Armstrong, D. Armstrong. Trophies were presented by Chirnside Gala Queen Kacey Moffat.

Trophy winners were: Football Cup for most points in flower sections - J. Kenny; Ross Robertson Cup for best pot plant - D. Hutchison; Brown Cup for best exhibit of roses excluding Floribunda Roses - Mrs P. Thomson; Richard Craig Trophy for best three sprays of Floribunda Roses - Mrs A. Robertson; Norrie Bowl for most points in fruit section - R. Garden; Earsman Trophy for most points in vegetable section - D. Hutchison; Thomson Cup for best entry in vegetables section excluding collection - D. Hutchison; Patterson Bowl for most points in industrial section - Mrs J. Garden; Swan Cup for best exhibit in industrial section - Mrs J. Garden; Alice Rose Bowl for most points in handicrafts classes - Miss A. Patterson; Jock Howie Memorial Cup for most points in onion classes - Mrs A. Robertson.

For members only: Douglas Cup for most points in vegetable classes - J. Williams; Barber Cup for most points in cut flowers classes - J. Kenny; Mary Waddell Trophy for most points in industrial classes - joint winners M. Renton and A. Robertson; Tom Waddell Cup for best onion in show - Mrs A. Robertson.

Garden Trophies: Bill Smith Trophy for best kept and cropped garden - J.G. Black; Lyall Trophy for most attractive garden - Mrs M. Renton; Common Good Trophy for best entry in garden containers classes - The Beacon.
