Youngsters to organise Borders awards ceremony
Six new Saltire Ambassadors have been recruited to organise the Borders’ first Youth Awards Ceremony for young people aged 11 to 25.
The young ambassadors, from Roxburgh and central areas, will have help from two outreach members from Tweeddale and Berwickshire.
The ceremony, at Galashiels Volunteer Hall on March 28, promises to be a gala event, with speakers, live bands and top-quality catering.
As well as the Saltire Awards, the event will, for the first time, host the “Inspire Awards” for young people who are an inspiration to others. They have six categories: Arts & Music, Sport, Community, Volunteering, Culture and Community. For details on the awards and how to nominate email inspireawards@vcborders.org.uk
The Saltire Awards were introduced in April 2012 to replace the You-Vol and MV Awards. Any young person who has
achieved a Saltire Award will be invited to the Youth Awards Ceremony to be presented with their certificate. Tina Cameron,
VCB Youth Development Officer, is keen for young people to sign up for the Saltire Award Scheme and submit their timesheets as soon as possible for a certificate.
The cut-off date for Saltire certificate requests is the end of February.
