Windfarm’s community chest of £4m

THE Greenlaw public will have the chance to view plans for a prospective wind farm at Rumbletonrig when they go on display during two days’ of public exhibitions.

On Friday, March 8 (3pm-8pm) and Saturday, March 9 (10am-1pm), energy developer TCI Renewables will present their vision for the site to the public at the Fairbairn Hall in Greenlaw.

TCI Renewables is courting approval by offering a six per cent share of the profits to the local community, which could generate around £4million over the proposed windfarm’s predicted 25 years of operation, to support local initiatives, an average of some £157,500 per annum.

At present, TCI has only sought planning permission for what it terms a “temporary” Meteorological Monitoring Mast, some 60m high, which, if permission is fully granted, will stand on the site for three years. This proposal is still pending consideration from planners at Scottish Borders Council.

Should progress on the site, 600m from the nearest dwelling, continue, then TCI face a barrage of investigations into its likely impact on aviation, the local ecology, telecommunications and transport in the area.
