TORNESS FEATURES IN INTERNATIONAL NUCLEAR SAFETY FILM Torness Power Station was recently selected to feature in an international film about the nuclear industrys response to the Fukushima disaster in Japan.

Torness Power Station was recently selected to feature in an international film about the nuclear industry’s response to the Fukushima disaster in Japan.

The IAEA – International Atomic Energy Agency – approached EDF Energy with a request to film in one of its UK nuclear plants and to interview staff as an illustration about how the industry, and EDF in particular, were implementing lessons from the events at Fukushima in March 2011.

The film outlined the Agency’s 12-point Action Plan and was screened to a wide international audience at its 2012 General Conference in Vienna in September, involving representatives of Member States of the Agency.

The film crew spent a day at Torness and interviewed station director Paul Winkle and special projects manager Ian Cathro.

Producer Jim Ring from production company Gig House Films said: “We made a film about measures introduced globally to make nuclear power safer in the aftermath of Fukushima Daichii. The assistance of the staff at Torness, who made a crisp and personable contribution to the film, was much appreciated’.

Station director Paul Winkle said: “This was a great opportunity for Torness to show an international audience how we are committed to our responsibility for safety.

“We continue to develop safety capability which enables us to respond effectively to the most unpredictable and unprecedented events.”
