Torness apprentices are blooming marvellous!
EDF Energy
EDF Energy apprentices from Torness have been helping elderly people in East Lothian keep things rosy in the garden.
Through a company called Mobex, the two groups of apprentices tackled gardens where the elderly residents were finding it increasingly difficult to cope with high hedges and weeds. The work was carried out under EDF Energy’s ‘Helping Hands’ scheme, which encourages employees to spend time each year on community projects.
Apprentice co-ordinator Dominic Blythe said: “On the first day, the team helped an elderly woman, whose hedges had become too high for her to cut herself. By lowering them, the apprentices made it easier for the lady to tend her own hedges in the future.
“The team then moved on to her beloved orchard which had become so overgrown, she was unable to even get into it. A few hours of hard work later she agreed they had carried out a stunning transformation and was delighted with the results.”
The following day another Torness team tackled an elderly man’s garden where weeds were the main culprit.
