Scottish Borders Council’s website is rated as one of the top five council websites in Scotland and among the top 25 local authority websites in the whole of the UK according to the results of a new survey.

The survey, conducted by SiteMorse.com, examined the usability, accessibility, reliability and performance of all local authority websites in the UK.

The revamped council website went live in October 2011 and is designed to make it easier for customers to find what they’re looking for and carry out tasks quickly and easily.

The site receives an average of 30,000 visitors per month but almost 27,000 people visited it in the space of just three days during the severe weather at end of January.

In an online poll 64 per cent of people thought that the provision of information during the severe weather had ‘surpassed expectations’.

SBC Leader Councillor David Parker commented: “This is a huge testament to the amount of work that has been underway over the last two years to bring the Council to the forefront of local authority websites and maintain our commitment to excellent customer service.

“As more and more of us lead very busy lives we know it makes a huge difference to have access to a website that lets you do whatever you need to, quickly and easily.”
