Support is available to help Borders smokers Quit4Good

SMOKING kills about half of its users prematurely.

Undoubtedly the best reason to stop smoking is because you want to, and you feel it’s the right time to quit. You’re less likely to succeed if you are just doing it because other people tell you to or you think you ought to.

NHS Borders Quit4Good Service is providing support in the community through specialist advisors offering group sessions in the Borders including in Duns and Eyemouth.

Following an initial individual assessment, clients are invited to attend a six week group programme or a one to one session as appropriate to the client.

One-to-one appointments are also available from all GP practices through the Practice nurse.

Group support sessions are also available and are provided by experienced stop smoking advisors who have been specially trained in helping smokers to stop successfully.

These typically take place for 1 hour each week over a course of six weeks.

The groups are relaxed, informal and friendly, and the support and encouragement you get from the advisors and the other quitters in the group means that you are much more likely to stop smoking than if you were going it alone.

Smokers can self-refer to the service via the smoking information line on 0844 8118180. They can also ask their GP or nurse for support.
