Small town and village projects
a MONTH to go before the end of the current financial year, and the £49,482 fund available for spending on small projects in Berwickshire has £1800 left.
Small schemes in Ayton, Allanton, Chirnside, Coldstream and Paxton were all given the go ahead last week at the second meeting of the Berwickshire Area Forum, in Duns Volunteer Hall.
Allanton Village Hall’s railings will be painted, at a cost of £235; A further £582 will be spent on pottery tiles that will be installed on the flower planters at Chirnside Primary School; repairs to the metal bench at Paxton’s telephone exchange will cost £48; new street nameplates at Ayton accounts for £2100; and £1150 is being spent on a floral display at the bottom of Guards Road, Coldstream in preparation for this year’s 500th anniversary of the Battle of Flodden.
Scottish Borders Council sets aside money for each area in the region which can be used for small schemes in the area and local councillors, community councils and members of the public can put forward suggested local projects to be financed.
