Sign up to volunteer and be a Gem to the elderly

A CROSS-BORDER partnership of three voluntary organisations is aiming to give members of the public the chance to find out more about opportunities to volunteer with older people in north Northumberland and Berwickshire.

Elder Gems, a project of Berwick Community Trust, the Alzheimer’s Society, and the Early Intervention Project, a befriending project run by Seton Care, have got together to organise an information day.

The information event will take place on Tuesday, October 16, from 10.30am till 12 noon, in the William Elder Building on Castlegate in Berwick.

There will be information available about becoming a befriender, a cafe volunteer, an activities volunteer, a support service volunteer and other valuable roles.

Anyone interested in volunteering will be able to choose between weekly, fortnightly, or monthly roles, or one-off roles, or ad-hoc roles. So there’s something for everyone.

The information day will be running at the same time as a coffee morning in support of the Elder Gems group, a group of like-minded, active, older people who get together on Tuesdays in the William Elder Building.

You can join them for coffee (entry £1).

For more details ring Terri on 01361 885928 or Linda on 01289 303143.
