Seahouses chip shop hit by fire

A POPULAR Seahouses chippy will be closed for the foreseeable future after fire ripped through the premises last Thursday.

The Pinnacles fish and chip restaurant and takeaway was hit by fire, which caused extensive damage to the kitchen, on Thursday morning.

Workers in both the restaurant and an upstairs hairdressers were forced to evacuate when the fire broke out in a deep fat fryer at 9.25am.

Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service sent five crews from Seahouses, Berwick, Alnwick, Belford and Wooler, while Northumbria Police also attended. The fire was eventually put out at 11.58am.

The hairdressers were allowed to return to the premises after a couple of hours. But the chippy could be forced to remain closed for “some time”, according to fire bosses. As well as the kitchen, the shop’s dining area and upstairs office, storage and roof space also suffered the effects of smoke.

The cause of the fire is still unknown and an investigation has been launched.

Teenage girl stole alcohol

A TEENAGE girl twice stole lager and cider from the Spar on Main Street, Tweedmouth on Thursday, February 9.

The girl, who is said to be between 16-18 years-old, went into the shop on two occasions and stole a quantity of Carlsberg, cider and Stella. She has dark, shoulder length hair and was wearing a dark top and leggings.

Police are making enquiries and are concerned about the volume of alcohol-related disorder in and around the area. As such they have stepped up patrols to deal with this, and have made an application to Northumberland County Council to extend the designated public places order to include Tweedmouth.
