SBC to introduce chip and pin

AT the end of this month Scottish Borders Council will start using chip and PIN technology, offering a more secure means of taking face-to-face card payments, reducing the risk of card fraud.

Chip and pin machines are being introduced to all customer contact centres from Wednesday, October 24 and other places to have the technology in Berwickshire include the Jim Clark Room in Duns; Duns Registration Office and Coldstream Registration Office.

In order to change over to the new improved payments system, SBC’s payment system will be unavailable from midday on October 23 to mid-afternoon on October 24.

This will affect the internet payment facility for council tax and other key payments, the automated telephone payment facility and the counter service provided by contact centres for taking payments over the phone.

In addition, it will not be possible during this time to take payments at contact centres, registrar offices, recycling centres and SBC headquarters.
