SBC role for Coldingham mum

A COLDINGHAM mum has been appointed to Scottish Borders Council’s education committee to help represent the views of parents.

Alison Ramcharran has been handed the role of primary school parent representative while Peebles Kate Forman will take on the equivalent position for seconday schools.

Alison moved to the Coldingham area with her husband and two boys in March 2009, and is chair of the Parents’ Association at Coldingham Primary School.

Commenting on her appointment, she said: “Life in London was different once the boys came along, and I had fond memories of my rural upbringing and education in Scotland.

“We are pleased to have moved to a beautiful area with a great village school and local community.”

“My parents always impressed upon me the importance of education, but it was not until I became a parent that the reality of this hits you.

“I volunteered so that I can try and contribute in a meaningful way and to help to make the investment in our young people as good as it can be.”

Both Alison and Kate were nominated by their school’s parent council and were elected following a ballot of parent councils across the Borders in December last year.

They were officially welcomed to the committee by Councillor Sandy Aitchison, executive member for education and will serve a two-year term.
