Repair works set to begin on Ayton-Chirnside road
REPAIRS on the B6355 Ayton-Chirnside road will begin tomorrow after Scottish Borders Council was forced to close the road last week due to rain damage.
A new 900mm pipe, which is required to replace the old culvert, is due to be installed tomorrow (Wednesday) with tarring works set to be carried out on Thursday.
Weather permitting, it is hoped the road will be re-open for the weekend.
Further works are expected to take place next week, with traffic lights in place.
A diversion route is currently in place along the A6105 Berwick Road for all traffic.
The council’s director of Environment and Infrastructure, Rob Dickson explained: “The extremely wet conditions we have experienced over the last few months has clearly taken its toll on our local roads.
“This is another example of the type of damage caused by such heavy rain. This is a very challenging time but we continue to do all we can to carry out repairs as quickly as is possible. We hope to have this road re-opened to traffic as soon as possible and would like to thank drivers for their patience in the meantime.”
