BEING part of the Diamond Jubilee Thames River Pageant is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and for two people it could become a reality.

Lord Lieutenant of Berwickshire, Major Alexander Trotter is looking for two people to join his official party on board the ‘Biscoe Kid’ and the winners of the district’s Diamond Jubilee Quiz get to choose who that will be.

Major Trotter and his deputies are organising a Berwickshire-wide quiz and the winners can nominate the two people (either members of their team or someone they regard as most deserving) to go down to London and be part of this historic occasion.

Heats for the quiz are taking place in Coldstream, Coldingham, Duns, Greenlaw, Gordon, Westruther, Allanton and Abbey St Bathans, with the eight winners from each heat coming together for the grand final.

The money raised will help towards the cost of getting the two Berwickshire boats down to the Thames, the Diamond Jubilee Fund and also the Margaret Kerr palliative care unit at Borders General Hospital.

Sponsors are also being sought to help with transport and travel costs for the boats and crew. Local bus company Perrymans has already come forward and the more sponsors who come forward to cover the costs the more money raised can be donated to the palliative care unit.
