Police warn drivers not to use phone

Lothian and Borders Police are reminding drivers that it is an offence to drive whilst using a mobile phone or other device.

Acting Inspector Brian Jones of the Roads Policing department said: “Phones, Satellite navigation systems and other devices distract drivers who should be concentrating on driving safely. The road network in the Scottish Borders is not very forgiving and it is important that drivers focus on the road ahead. Whilst the vast majority of drivers recognise the dangers, we are still finding a small number of drivers who continue to use their mobile phone whilst driving.”

When spotted by Police, drivers are issued with a £60 ticket and three points, and may be reported to the Procuartor Fiscal.
