Plans for windfarm at Horn Burn

WIND farms are still a major bone of contention for some people in the area, and now plans are afoot for even more turbines in Berwickshire.

European windfarm development company, Energiekontor, are proposing a windfarm to be built on land south-east of Reston and south-west of Ayton adjacent to the B6355.

The site at Horn Burn is not situated in an area designated for any sensitive landscape, cultural heritage or ecological assets and is within an ‘Area of Search with Minor Constraint’ for commercial wind farms as defined by Scottish Borders Council planning guidance on Wind Energy.

Energiekontor are looking to build 10 wind turbines with a potential generating capacity of around 20MW and a potential electricity generation of over 45,000 MW/h (Megawatt hours) per annum. This could potentially provide enough electricity for over 8,200 households.

Initial discussions have taken place with SBC and other key consultees to aid the current design of the wind farm and this week Energiekontor who have 77 wind farms throughout Europe sent out letters to residents in close proximity to the site inviting them to the introductory public exhibitions in Reston Village Hall on February 29 from 3-8pm and Ayton Community Hall on March 1 at the same time.
