Plans to extend Duns industrial estate

ANother application to extend Duns industrial estate on land at Peerig Farm has been submitted by Scottish Borders Council to its own planning department.

In the council’s Local Plan an area of land beside the industrial estate, of just under an acre, was earmarked for employment use to be developed in stages. There have been two previous successful applications for an extension to the industrial estate from the existing access road adjacent to the Farne Trout and Salmon car park.

This current application is for the remaining area of employment land to the east of the sit to allow a further extension of the road and landscape planting.

The employment land will be extended over a number of years, allowing it to be developed with a mix of uses.

The application for the proposed new woodland is to ensure that all site planting is of the same age and will enclose, shelter and enhance the site and create an open aspect to the footpath along the former railway line.

Duns was one of four Borders towns where £1 million of European funding was sought by Scottish Borders Council three years ago towards the cost of developing the infrastructure needed for business parks which over time will improve employment opportunities in Duns, Coldstream, Lauder and at Burnfoot, Hawick.
