Paxton houses planning appeal fails

PLANS to build two houses on land west of Smiddy's Cottage, Paxton have been knocked back again, after an appeal against Scottish Borders Council's refusal to grant planning permission failed.

In her decision notice Reporter Gill Stewart said: "The proposed dwellings would not, in my opinion, integrate well with the relatively cohesive group of existing buildings, and the proposed siting of the new buildings at an angle to the road would contrast markedly with the relationship between existing dwellings and the road.

"In these respects, the appeal proposal fails to reflect or respect the character of the existing group.

"The proposed development conflicts with development plan policies that aim to restrict new dwelling in the countryside, in that it fails to comply with the criteria which, in certain circumstance, make allowance for additions to existing 'building groups'.
