New climbing frame for nursery pupils
Ceryl Duggon with staff and children at Highways Nursery testing out the new climbing frame
THERE were a lot of happy faces at Eyemouth’s Highways Nursery last week after a brand spanking new climbing frame appeared in the playground, thanks to staff securing funding from Awards For All and BAVs, a sponsored walk and the generous donations from parents and businesses in the town.
The eye-catching piece of equipment cost in the region of £6,000, more than nursery manager Cheryl Duggan first anticapted, meaning that the extra money from BAVs, the staff and children’s walk and businesses was essential.
“I just want to say a big thank you to everyone who helped us reach our target and to Image Playground for making the frame for us,” Cheryl told ‘The Berwickshire’.
“We’d originally applied to Awards for All for money for a lock up shed to put bikes and toys in but we postponed those plans and fortunately they let us re-direct that funding towards the climbing frame.
“We’re always looking for money for new resources so to have the support of our parents and the local community was fantastic.
“The children are absolutely delighted with the frame.
“Unfortunately with the weather being how it was last week they couldn’t play on it as much as they’d have liked but as soon as things brighten up we’ll be out there as much as possible.”
Highways will turn 21 in the summer and any former pupils who want to get involved with the celebrations should email highwaydaynursery@yahoo.co.uk.
