A unique evening of fireworks and music held at Mellerstain House to raise awareness and funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care

A UNIQUE evening of fireworks and music was held at Mellerstain House to help raise awareness of Marie Curie Cancer Care in the local community.

The fundraising event entitled ‘A World of Fireworks and Music’ was created by professional musician Serena Foyle, whose mother Rose, is a Marie Curie Patron in Berwickshire.

Serena, who studied Music at Edinburgh University, wanted to produce a unique show-stopping event, taking the audience on an emotional journey through a combination of music and fireworks.

Utilising the very latest in time-code technology, Serena worked alongside the head pyrotechnician, Andrew Wiggins of Jubilee Fireworks, to skilfully choreograph the music to fireworks for twenty two minutes, ensuring pin point accuracy throughout the display. Serena, who has been working on the event for the past two months, selected a mixture of musical genres ranging from contemporary right through to rock, jazz and pop.

The firework evening was attended by 300 guests and held in the grounds of Mellerstain House, owned by the Earl and Countess of Haddington. Those attending the event also enjoyed the tastes of a delicious barbeque and the sounds of jazz musician Ed Begley, who brought together a skilled group of musicians for especially for the event.

Serena Foyle said: “Marie Curie is charity which I hold very close to my heart, so this has been a very exciting and special experience for me both professionally and personally. I have loved being able to work with a blank canvas to show how music can direct the atmosphere of what you see. It has been a great challenge to combine this spectacular visual display of fireworks with the selected music and I’m thrilled to have been able to help Marie Curie in the process.”
