Massive fundraising effort
IT’s a cause that is close to their heart after middle son Euan was diagnosed with the condition last year and now the Horsburgh family from Eyemouth, thanks to some fantastic support from a group of kind hearted youngsters in the town, are thrilled to be able to hand a mammoth cheque over to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
Euan’s mum Jill said she was “absolutely overwhelmed” at the amount and was full of praise for the youngsters who raised £2,910 by taking part in and helping to organise a number of fundraising events, the main one being a Swimathon which was held at the Eyemouth Leisure Centre at the end of last month.
The group of fundraisers pictured above with Ian Learmonth from the leisure centre, are Katie Clough, Alex Clough, Brogan Dougal, Sophie Reap Archie Sanderson, Jack Lannagan, Euan Horsburgh, Maisie Sanderson, Charlotte Horsburgh, Owen Tennant, Duncan Horsburgh, Mack Blackie and Isla Easingwood.
Missing from the photograph are Jack Bell and Kaitlen Gillie.
The children are from all over the Borders with the majority at school in Eyemouth and Charlotte and Jack from Edenside Primary and Channelkirk Primary respectively.
Jill also thanked Leisure centre manager Henry Gray and all his staff for their support and the community of Eyemouth and surrounding villages for their support in donating to the Junior Diabetes Research Foundation, who are thrilled at the amount which has been raised.
Jill said she and her family felt so compelled to raise money for the Foundation because “we didn’t want life to be any different for Euan; we want to him to enjoy the same things as everyone else.”
Euan’s mum said the youngster had coped amazingly well since being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in August 2011, adding that she was also very grateful to Diabeteic Specialist Nurse, Sandra Robertson; Dr John Stephen and all on Ward 15 at Borders General for their support over the past year.
