Lifeboat comes to aid of missing dog

A DOG which got stuck at the base of cliffs on the Berwickshire coastline has been reunited with its owner.

Jasper, a chocolate coloured Labrador, had gone missing from the back garden of his Berwick home on Saturday.

Starving and with his lead stuck in rocks, he was found on Tuesday morning by 13-year-old Christopher Beresford near Marshall Meadows who alerted the emergency services.

It was initially thought its owner might also be in trouble so an RAF search and rescue helicopter helped coastguards from Berwick and Eyemouth and the Berwick inshore lifeboat search the surrounding area.

The dog had injured a back leg so could not be winched by the helicopter but the coastguard eventually managed to transfer it to the lifeboat and he was brought back to Tweed Dock where his relieved owner was waiting.
