Lifeboat rescues dog walker

A TERRIFIED dog walker stranded by a fast incoming tide in the dark, rain and wind phoned coastguards for help on Saturday night.

The woman had waded up to her waist to try and get back to dry land after being cut off on the salt marshes behind the dunes at Belhaven Bay, near Dunbar.

Coastguards requested help from Dunbar’s RNLI inshore lifeboat and other crew members raced to the marshes in the station Landrover to start a shore search along with a local coastguard team.

The shore based lifeboat crew found the woman – and her dog - who was shaken but unharmed by the incident.

ILB helmsman Alan Blair said: “The tide fills in the sarsh area really quickly and I can imagine it must have been terrifying for the woman in the dark with visibility cut down by the heavy rain.”
