EYEMOUTH Lifeboat was called out on the morning of last Wednesday, August 8, to come to the aid of a vessel that had got into difficulty in the harbour.

The lifeboat was launched at 11:20am after it was reported that a fishing vessel was taking on water whilst it was tied up alongside the harbour wall, just a short distance from the lifeboat station.

The lifeboat crew were on scene within seconds and found the 11 metre Kirkwall registered trawler, ‘Stronsay Lad’, sitting down by the bow in the water.

A salvage pump was quickly transferred over and working with staff from the local boat yard, the lifeboat crew started to pump out the seawater from the vessel’s fish hold.

Once the water level had reduced, the trawlers skipper was able to start the main engine and use the vessels own bilge pumps to control the water flow.

Once the situation was under control the lifeboat was stood down.
